It is not a safe assumption that your audience will instantly relate to you. You have to capture and retain their attention. This is a performance, which means that you will have to work hard in order to get the results you want.

When you speak in public, it is important to be prepared in order to make a great impression. Be prepared when it comes to your topic. Support your statements with facts, when necessary. Put your thoughts down on paper. Go over them each day until you can confidently speak it from memory. The better prepared you are, the more confident you’ll be when delivering the speech.
