TIP! Try to use prenatal vitamins even before you get pregnant. Throughout the first three months of pregnancy, the baby’s spinal cord and brain begin to form.

Eat better foods so that you’re providing the best nutrients to you and your baby healthy during pregnancy. If you ate a lot of fast food before pregnancy, you have drastic changes to make.

If there are one or more cats in your home, refrain from cleaning the litter. Soiled cat litter contains chemicals that are dangerous for pregnant women. Ask a friend or family member if they can take care of this chore for awhile.

Take some prenatal vitamins as soon as you plan on getting pregnant.

Make sure that you take a tour of your birthing hospital near to your due date. If you are completely comfortable and confident with your birth place decision, you’ll feel that much better when it comes time to deliver. If it’s an option, look into a couple different places. Make sure that the facilities are what you need for both you and the person staying with you during labor.

TIP! As you are more and more pregant and almost to delivery, look to tour birth facilities. You will be able to focus more on the labor itself when you aren’t stressing about the surroundings you are in.

You should add three to five hundred calories to your diet when pregnant. You are feeding not only yourself as well as your growing baby. Eat healthy foods like lean proteins, like fruits and vegetables.

During pregnancy, your body needs adequate support as you sleep. Many stores offer special body pillows specifically designed for the pregnant woman. If you cannot afford or find one, you can try using a normal pillow instead. Supporting both your knee and your stomach can help you achieve a more restful sleep.

TIP! When pregnant, you should support your body, when sleeping. Pregnancy pillows that hug your entire body can be purchased at a wide variety of stores.

Don’t hesitate to ask help when lifting things if you’re pregnant. Lifting heavy things can cause miscarriages or stress on your baby, so asking for help could literally mean the difference between life and death! Always have others life heavy objects, never overexert yourself.

Keep a food log. Go over the list of foods you ate at the end of the day to make sure you met all your nutritional requirements and made good nutritional decisions. Taking this list to the doctor will also come in handy for him or her to look over as well.

TIP! Keep a food log. Tracking your food helps you to ensure you are getting the right nutrition.

Do not neglect your spouse or partner when you are pregnant. Most partners are just as scared and confused as you may be, he is nervous about the baby’s arrival too, and they will need to work with you to calm down. Enjoy what time you have alone together before your new addition comes!

As your pregnancy proceeds, take up swimming as a very healthy exercise. Swimming is a great exercise during pregnancy because it helps get those aches and pains out. Being weightless in the water can be something that soothes you as well.

Ensure that your diet has plenty of healthy protein in it during your pregnancy. This nutrient is beneficial to both you and your baby.

Take photographs of yourself while pregnant and write to your unborn child. Children love to see pictures of what mommy looked like when they were still inside. Take pictures and jot little notes to share with them later on when they’re ready.

TIP! Take pictures and keep journals during your pregnancy so that your child can see them later on. They will be delighted and amazed to think that they were once in there.

When you are pregnant, support your body, while you sleep. There are special body pillows available that are made to cradle the pregnant belly for comfort and support when sleeping. Try a pillow under your knee and another below your lower back.

Set aside some time to write down your birth plan. Include everything that you need the people that are closest to you to do while you are giving birth. Pack your bag with the birth plan, your insurance card, registration forms, your camera and clothes for you and the baby.

TIP! Pre-plan what will happen at your birth. Be sure to include your expectations of others while you are in labor.

If you must travel while pregnant, make sure medical care is readily available at your destination. You want to stray to far from a doctor throughout your pregnancy in case complications should arise. If you’re traveling, ensure you have a cell phone available at all times.

To decrease joint swelling and inflammation while pregnant, mothers should avoid sitting down for too long. Your feet and ankles may swell as the day goes on, becoming very uncomfortable. Pregnancy makes it more difficult for blood to circulate through the lower half of your body. Extended sitting, such as in a car or at your desk, can aggravate the swelling. There are a few things you can do to fight the swelling, including soaking your feet in icy water, wearing loose socks, sleeping with your body angled to the left, and refraining from sitting with your legs crossed at the ankles.

Don’t use hot tub or saunas while pregnant. An overheated body can be very bad for your baby. You should avoid rosemary, rosemary and juniper, in particular.

Get an HIV test as soon as you find out that you’re pregnant. If there is any chance you could be HIV positive, it is better to know so you can prevent it causing harm to your baby. It also allows you to look for people in the medical profession that have knowledge about HIV.

Tell your doctor promptly if you notice a high level of vaginal discharge.

Stretch before you go to sleep each night to ease your muscles. Cramping in the legs, especially the calves, is a very common complaint for pregnant women. This is due to the extra weight and strain on the leg muscles. By stretching before laying down, you will allow your muscles to relax, thus, reducing the chances of getting muscle cramps as you sleep. This will also help you to sleep more fully.

TIP! To avoid pain while sleeping, do a set of stretches prior to getting in bed. Leg cramps are common during pregnancy because of weight gain.

Your olfactory sense will most likely be heightened during pregnancy, so odors you encounter on a daily basis might now cause nausea. If you find this to often be the case, you can carry a scented handkerchief to counteract the offensive smells. You can use the handkerchief and hold it to your nose as you pass anything which smells badly enough to nauseate you.

If you are pregnant, be sure to let your dentist know. Pregnant women should not take x-rays. The exposure risk for a fetus outweighs any benefits of the annual x-rays. Removal of fillings and bleaching are a no-no, too. Talk to your dentist, to ensure that your mouth is healthy during the process.

TIP! As soon as you discover that you are pregnant, immediately inform your dentist. X-rays and pregnancy do not go together.

If a doctor is aware that a woman has HIV, you need to plan with your OB-GYN to prevent your baby from getting it. You will also be able to look for physicians who specializes in treating HIV.

Quit smoking before you become pregnant!!! Smoking while pregnant can cause an array of health issues. Smoking can have disastrous effects for both mom and baby. The risk of an ectopic pregnancy is increased. Miscarriage and stillbirth chances also increase when a woman smokes during pregnancy. The risk of premature delivery is a higher and so are the risks of birth defect.

TIP! Never smoke cigarettes while pregnant. Smoking during your pregnancy is associated with many health risks.

When you are attempting to conceive a child, eat a healthy diet. Some items, including folate and folic acid, are important to fetal development from the very beginning. You should also start taking a prenatal vitamin daily.

See a physician before you try to have a baby. You will get a check-up and advice on pregnancy. This is important if you have a heart condition or diabetes.

TIP! See a physician before you try to have a baby. Your doctor can provide you with a physical to ensure you’re in good enough health to have a baby.

Take your iron tablets and eat foods with iron when pregnant. You and your baby need about 50 percent more iron than normal during pregnancy. Iron is what you need to produce hemoglobin which carries oxygen through the whole body. You need a lot more during the second and third trimesters.

Once you’re ready to have a baby, you may find yourself getting a lot more excited than you need to be. One aspect of your plan should be boosting your health. Eat healthy foods, including veggies and lean meats. If you are a bit overweight, try to shed some pounds. This will help keep many pregnancy problems at bay.

TIP! When baby fever hits, it is easy to become very enthusiastic about the prospect. An important step, however, is to take good stock of the state of your health.

Avoid smoking when pregnant. Smoking during pregnancy can cause an array of health issues. Smoking can have unfortunate effects for both you and your baby. The chance of an ectopic pregnancy is greatly increased. Smokers tend to have increased rates of miscarriages and stillbirths. Premature delivery and birth defects are also a higher risk.

Talk to someone if your pregnancy is getting to you. Pregnancy is taxing, and the third trimester is especially so. You are not less grateful about the miracle happening in your body if you want to vent a bit because you feel terrible.

TIP! Do you want to complain about pregnancy? Do it. You’re uncomfortable and miserable.
